For Love of Country!
With inauguration a few weeks away, seems like everyone is focused on ‘country’ – from the most entrenched political pundits to pop stars, ‘Country’ is in the zeitgeist, so what better theme to start 2025 with!
The first Black American ‘country’ artist I remember seeing was Charley Pride on a rerun show called Hee Haw! Years later son Dion Pride took over the mantle as a performer and songwriter in his own rights, and fast forward a few decades, there’s now a slew of diverse artists proudly displaying their country bona fides. We present three voices here, each representing a new side of Country Music, advancing the artform as it moves forward into its future destiny. Enjoy!
