April-May 2021

When you think of the harp and artists who play the ancient instrument, what comes to mind? Usually it’s a classical orchestra or chamber ensemble who generally, accordingly to harpist Brandee Younger, fall within the common stereotype of having blond hair and blue eyes. Ethereal and elegant, does anyone dare consider the harp an instrument that could be FUNKY!?

In this issue you’ll meet four harpists who are turning the paradigm on its head. Classically trained, incorporating contemporary, jazz, new age and R&B into their catalogs, this quartet of artists excel at reshaping, redefining and reinvigorating the harp into an instrument mass audiences can not only get behind, but groove to.  All featured artists appreciate your support.
