Genre Bending Multidisciplinary Music
You can almost feel the breeze against your skin when listening to George Brandon’s Blue Unity Sextet’s composition, “Monterey“. Blue Unity Sextet, a new project drawn from members of the Blue Unity Orchestra program, is led by composer, anthropologist and integrative sound and music practitioner George Brandon, a multidisciplinary cultural worker straddling the domains of art, science, and spirituality. Proud recipient of New York’s Diversity Project Development Fund Grant from City University, the Blue Unity Orchestra and Blue Unity Sextet sound is just as likely to include gospel, Yoruba chant and the blues, as it is to include jazz standards, folk, world, avant-garde jazz, experimental, or Afro-Pop. The musical space this group creates is beyond category. Listen for yourself and create your own descriptive adjective.
