Country Trap
Emerging on the scene in 2020, the single moniker Breland, a New Jersey native actively works to challenge himself and expand the bounds of country music. Growing up in a household where music, Gospel and Motown played an important part, Breland seeks to defy genres by exploring the intersections between country and hip hop in a genre he coins ‘cross country’. Inspired by the huge success of the surprise hit Old Town Road, Breland released his cross country sound on the world via an uploaded clip to Instagram called My Truck, which went viral. The rest, as they say, is history!
Now with a deal at Atlantic Records, collaborations with country heavy hitters like Dierks Bentley, Mickey Guyton, Keith Urban and more, Breland Music and cross country has definitely caught on and solidified the home he’s found in the genre, which he states is really just a short distance away from hip hop. “The defining thing about country music is the songwriting. It’s about how effectively you can tell a story, which is also at hip-hop’s core. The preeminent genres of music in the South are country and hip-hop, and there’s not really a whole lot that separates the listener base if you look at every factor, other than race”.
