Traditional Virtuoso
Artist Sona Jobarteh is a cultural ambassador, a musician who spreads a powerful humanitarian message through her songs and stage performances. Possessing a distinctive voice and virtuoso on the Kora, a traditional West African instrument reserved only for the sons of special families, Sona Jobarteh broke past a seven-century tradition and, hailing from one of fiveprominent kora-playing griot families, was taught the instrument as a child. Sona now travels the world bringing her history, her story and her music to sold-out audiences both live and online. With a mix of traditional music, blues and Afropop, Sona regularly plays to sold out crowds, has amassed significant online exposure through her virtual programs and has delivered speeches to the UN, the World Trade Organization and UNICEF.
